Founded in 1906. The brewery is situated along the Naruse River, which originates in the Ou mountain range at Funagata Mountain and flows into Sendai Bay. Mid way along this river is the town Nakaniida with its "important intangible cultural asset" the Tiger Dance (done on rooftop to prevent fires) and its internationally known temple of music, the Bach Hall. Blessed with these surroundings, this sakes is produced using "cold temperature brewing" and polished rice. Mugen has a delicate, nourishing, unique taste. This flavorful sakes was awarded a gold medal by the Six-Tohoku-refectures-Taxation-Bureau-New-Sakes-Contest.

The brewery takes its name from the river and the sake Mugen was so named by the artist and mountain climber kuzuhiko Okabe.
